    When Everything Changes, God Doesn't

“For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed." - Malachi 3:6

    Changes All Around Us
If there is anything you learn in the game of hockey, it's that change is all but inevitable. This is true in all of life, but hockey has a weird way of highlighting the immediacy of change. It often makes it more real. More vivid.

A hockey player plays on a specific line or with a certain D partner. When your winning, this line might stick together for some time. But when the losses come, coach will change things up whether you like it or not. A hockey player will play on many different teams in their lifetime, from mini mites to old man skates. A hockey player will literally "change" in and out of their gear thousands of times over the span of time they can play the game.

Many players will see coaches change. Many will see roles change, even within one season. Many players will face changes in confidence from one game to the next. Players will eventually be replaced as the team changes direction or new, younger players rise through the ranks.

For those old enough to remember years past, we know the game itself is constantly in flux. Sticks, skates, helmets all change. Systems change. The ticket prices definitely change. The rules change.

All around us, nothing but change. This is often seen as advancement and progress, but everyone knows change is frustrating (or I should say, can often be frustrating). It can sometimes be exciting. Many times it is nerve racking. It's unstable. It never allows us to take a second and just be. We always have to be ready for what's next. Change is HARD.

    Not Everything Changes
BUT, here's the good thing. In a world full of change, one thing remains unchangeable: Our Creator, Lord, Savior, and God.

Whenever you feel like your drowning under the weight of change, remember you are the son or daughter of a Heavenly Father who does not change. When He makes a promise, He won't back out or change His mind. When He sets out to do something, He won't change directions mid course. When you stumble, fall, get too old or washed up, He won't consider you replaceable. His love doesn't change.

So here are the real questions:
    • In a world of change, would you like to have faith in someone who doesn't change?
    • Are you sick of constantly trying to keep up with the change?
    • Do you want something stable to stand on? Something constant you know you can rely on for all of time?
If the answers are YES.....Go to the Rock who doesn't change.
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock...." - Matthew 7:24-25
