Proverbs 15:3"The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good."This is part 1 of a 2 part series on Proverbs 15:3. In this first part of the series I talk about the reassuring reality found in the truth that God's eyes always see the good things we do and say.
Keeping watch on the goodMy wife enjoys conversation. She enjoys connecting with people and relationship. I'm not saying I don't, but she reeeaaallllyyy does. This is one of the awesome things about her, except when it comes to watching hockey games. For her, going to one of my hockey games meant a chance to see the other wives and girlfriends and have 3 hours of time to talk. (about what? I have no idea). And although many women would claim they are excellent multi taskers, the human eye and brain can only focus on so much. I remember many times walking to the car after games where the conversation went something like this:Her: "You got a goal tonight right?"Me: "Yes. I know it's rare, but I actually scored 2 goals tonight."Her: "You scored 2 goals!!??!!"Me: "and an assist"Her: "When did that happen?"Me: "What game were you watching? And didn't you hear the announcements after the goals?"Her: "You know me love. I have other stuff going on!"Me: "Yep, like gib gabbing with the other wives."Despite my wife's best efforts, there were times when she just flat out "missed" seeing something. Now, I am not one who cares too much about this kind of stuff, but it's always nice when people see the good things you do, no matter how rarely they happen!
For many of us, it's when we tryout for a new team. We want the coach to see all our skills and work. Or, when we turn in a paper at school, we want the teacher to see our good work. Maybe, we are hoping someone sees when we do the dishes, stay extra at work, clean our room, or a multitude of other things. The bottom line is: We like to be praised and many times we work hard to make sure people see what we have done. (just think about a resume, or season stats)
So where does Proverbs 15:3 come in?The beauty in Proverbs 15:3 is that the Lord sees EVERYTHING. Where humans fail. The Lord doesn't. He sees all our good deeds. He sees all our accomplishments. He sees the things we want others to see, but don't. This is important because it takes the pressure off of trying to work really hard to be seen and praised by men. When you know the Lord of the Universe sees you at every moment, you don't have to rush around and shout, "Did you see what I just did?" You can rest assured the Lord does in reality see what you just did.
As colossians 3:23 says, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men," We know we play to, work to, and strive to please an audience of One. One who is always watching. If you keep this in mind, you won't have to worry about getting let down. When a loved one or a coach misses something you are proud, you know the King is watching. When you think about this you realize you no longer have to "prove" your worth because the Lord sees all things and knows your worth completely.So, take it from Proverbs 15:3 and play like you KNOW your Heavenly Father is watching.
