This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Yep, it's that time of year again. Pink is everywhere, flowers coming from every conceivable corner, and chocolate overflowing the store shelves. For the hockey player, Valentine's Day is probably the furthest thing from a "holiday" as you can get. Hockey is supposed to be tough. Black and Blue, not pink. The only time you are supposed to see red is when you take one for the team and have to get stitched up. Our food of choice are goals, not truffles. Yet, despite all of that, there lies deep in our hearts the longing to be loved.
Perhaps the hardest part of Valentine's Day for your everyday hockey player is the thought that you might not get a nice card or a box of chocolate. You might have to go to practice where the team is always criticizing you, or the coach is anything but loving. Or maybe, instead of hearing "good game" from mom and dad we get a list of "what you need to better." For many players, Valentine's day is just another reminder of how hard being loved truly can be in the life of a hockey player.
Take Heart
We are here to let you know the GOOD NEWS. Instead of looking around and wondering where your Valentine will come from, stop and reflect that you have already been given the best Valentine's Day present ever. God gave us His one and only Son. Try and top that one! God loves us more than anyone or anything ever could. When Valentine Day comes and goes, remember that God's Love stands forever:
Though the mountains be shakenand the hills be removed,yet my unfailing love for you will not be shakennor my covenant of peace be removed,”says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
Isaiah 54:10
God tells us in His Word how much He loves us. He promises never to leave or forsake us, to answer us when we call, day or night. He never slumbers nor sleeps. So, if you are wondering where your Valentine will come from today or any day, you need to look no further than the cross of Christ and His amazing act of love for our benefit.
Your task today is today is to remember this and spend your day letting others know that this kind of love (an eternal, never ending, never failing kind of love) is available if you would just ask Jesus into your heart. Perhaps, there is no better day than today!
