The 2009-2010 professional and amateur hockey season is now in full swing, and with that, the Hockey Ministries International chapel outreach. For the past month and a half, HMi's faithful group of chaplains have been taking Biblical truth and the Gospel message into the locker rooms of hundreds of professional and amateur athletes all across North America. HMI is pleased to report that over 250 faithful chaplains are serving 27 professional and amateur leagues, 225 teams and nearly 1700 players. HMI president and Founder, Don Liesemer Jr., was a top amateur player and also played professionally for several seasons in the Montreal Canadiens system. As a result of the hockey playing lifestyle and the hectic travel schedule, making it to church and developing a spiritual life were nearly impossible tasks. Liesemer saw a tremendous need to bring "church" into the locker rooms of professional and amateur teams, and along with his vision of sharing the Gospel to youth hockey players through a camp program, HMI was formed in 1977.
HMI is still seeking chapels for a number of teams and cities. If you are interested or know someone who may be interested in serving as a chaplain, please contact Don Liesemer Jr., Vice President of Chapel Ministries, call (541) 395-1717 ext. 223 or e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
